Sat, 21 Apr 2012 23:53:37 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.2 There is a comfort in going back to basics. http://www.mequilting.com/2012/04/21/there-is-a-comfort-in-going-back-to-basics/ http://www.mequilting.com/2012/04/21/there-is-a-comfort-in-going-back-to-basics/#comments Sat, 21 Apr 2012 23:53:37 +0000 Lindsay http://www.mequilting.com/?p=425  29 years ago, I sat in front of my Grandmother and watched her as she sat in her rocking chair and knit a pair of socks.  I wanted to learn so bad, thinking that it would be fun to have something in common with her.  I loved spending time out on the farm, inside and out.  Outside with Grandpa tending the farm, building fences, herding sheep, training dogs.  I remember one time we were building a fence and he needed more 2" nails, but instead of just taking a nail with me, I used my fingers to measure the nail, and I started running for the house. Well, by the time I got back to the house my fingers had spread a lot further then 2".  Needless to say, I wasn’t a very good gopher that day…lol.

Anyways, I am telling you this story because I decided that I would knit a pair of socks the old fashioned way.  One at a time, top down, on DPN’s.  And this act reminds me so much of the comforts and fun of the farm.  Here are some photos of my progress so far…

I finished the Baby Hemlock, and it has been given to its recipients so now I can show it off here.  I also made a little owl hat for the baby.  It should fit by the time it needs to wear it…lol

I have also been crocheting a baby blanket, this one may be up for sale but here are some photos from that one…

Sorry for the poor photo quality on the last one.  I didn’t have all my lights on…lol

I also have colours for my next granny square blanket…

And I have been doing some jewelry making…

I have others as well, but i haven’t been outside to photograph more of them yet.
